TEAM NIKA, representing Saint Petersburg Yacht Club, won RC 44 World Championship in the Swedish city of Marsrtand. It is already the second title in this class for Vladimir Prosikhin. Bronenosec Sailing Team, representing the same Yacht Club, as the champions, took bronze.
The RC44 World Championship, which was again held in Marstrand - a resort city in the Western part of Sweden, finished with a triumph of Saint Petersburg Yacht Club teams. The weather was more than wonderful during the championship: light wind and bright sunshine almost all the time. Starting with the first races, Vladimir Prosikhin’s TEAM NIKA had taken the leading position with confidence and kept it till the final whistle. NIKA went to the start of the final day with the impressive margin of more than 10 points. That was why even a not so successful performance on the final day did not pose a threat to the overall victory of Prosikhin. For NIKA, it is already the second title of the RC44 World Champions since they started to perform in this class. The team of Saint Petersburg Yacht Club won its first gold in 2015.
BRONENOSEC, in its turn, started the competitions not very successfully. Liubomirov’s team was on the seventh place after the first day, but managed to cope with emotions and improve the results. Already on the next day, BRONENOSEC was on the third place, and on the last but one day - on the second. The team had all the chances to repeat the 2015 Championship Finale, when NIKA won and Liubomirov took the second place. But the reigning World Champion – Slovenian CEREEF – over-performed the Russian crew and pushed it to the third place.
There are two more events in the program of the RC44 Championship Tour – in Cascais and Lanzarote. According to the results of the three events of the tour, the teams of Saint Petersburg Yacht Club rank first and second. KATYUSHA climbed to the third place in overall standing.
