The Russian yachtsmen finished the Championship of Europe in Dragon class, which took place in Hungary on May 26 – July , with amazing results. Anatoly Loginov's crew from Moscow took the gold, and Dmitry Samokhin from Saint Petersburg took the bronze medal of the championship.

The continental championship was held at the famous Balaton Lake and united 56 participants from 14 countries, among which there were teams from Japan and Hong-Kong. Russia was represented by seven crews, including the current Champion of Russia Dmitry Samokhin and the Vice-Champion Mikhail Senatorov. The multiple Champion of Russia, Champion of Europe and holder of the Golden Cup in Dragon class Anatoly Loginov was also among the main contenders for the title.

Capricious weather of the freshwater basin made changes to competitions’ schedule all the time. Only 6 races were organized, the fleet didn’t compete on the last day.

The Russians crews demonstrated at once their ambitions to get the main title. Samokhin had finished first in the Open Championship of Hungary, which had happened prior to the Championship of Europe, Igor Ivashnitsov's crew had finished on the second place, and the future Champion of Europe Anatoly Loginov had been on the fifth place.

In comparison to the preparative competition, the number of participants of the Championship of Europe grew by one third and the battle became tougher. But the leaders of the Russian fleet demonstrated good results. Samokhin and Loginov have two victories each in the six races, that took place, and several finishes in top three. Anatoly Loginov’s crew from Moscow managed to show a more stable result and won the second gold of the continental championship after dazzling success in Saint Petersburg in 2016.

“We started the championship with great results, but then there was an unlucky day, when we were disqualified and finished on the 23rd place, – Dmitry Samokhin comments. - The finish on the second place on the next day brought us back to the top three, but the leaders were already well ahead of us”.

At the end of the day, the team of Saint Petersburg Yacht Club finished third, being outperformed by the crew from Monaco “Jenny”, which took silver. It is the second in a row medal of the Championship of Europe for Samokhin. Last year, he was the second at the championship in Switzerland.

The Russian fleet will participate in several important competitions further on. Particularly, prestigious Golden Cup in July in Finland, which is very convenient for a constantly growing Russian fleet.
